LOQED Touch vs Nuki 3.0 smart lock comparison

You’ve made up your mind: you want to buy a smart door lock. But which smart lock suits your personal situation best? In this blog, we compare the LOQED Touch Smart Lock with the Nuki smart lock 3.0. This will give you a good impression of the differences between the two smart locks. Although a number of functionalities are the same for both smart locks, there are a few areas where the LOQED Touch Smart Lock and the Nuki smart lock 3.0 differ considerably.

The installation

The installation of the Nuki smart lock can be completed within 5-10 minutes, whereas installation takes about 20 minutes for the LOQED Touch Smart Lock. No drilling is involved with either lock. You can place the Nuki 3.0 smart lock over your key that you leave it in the door permanently, and then fasten it with three small screws or double-sided tape. Make sure you have a cylinder with a hotel function, so that if there is the key on the inside of the lock, you can still use a key on the outside.

An SKG three-star cylinders is supplied with the LOQED Touch Smart Lock, which replaces your existing lock cylinder. With a few screws you place one part on your existing cover plate on the outside, the other part replaces the cover plate on the inside. The LOQED Touch Smart Lock sits flush on the door, while the Nuki lock sits on top of your existing door furniture.

Open the door automatically

Nothing beats being able to open the door without grabbing your keys. This is one of the most frequently mentioned reasons for upgrading your door with a smart lock. Opening the door automatically is possible thanks to a Bluetooth connection between the lock and your phone. The Nuki 3.0 smart lock will open the door as soon as your phone connects via Bluetooth. This will also happen if you drive past your house to park further down the street, or when you enter through the garden door. With the LOQED Touch Smart Lock, you confirm with a short touch that you want to open the door—this can also be done with your elbow or the back of your hand if you have your hands full. This lock knows through an indoor and outdoor sensor on which side of the door you are. Your front door will therefore not open accidentally when you enter through the garden door, or when you are still parking your car.

Suppose the battery of your phone is empty, what are your options?

Because the Nuki 3.0 smart lock is only mounted on the inside of the door, you can still enter with your house key*. With the LOQED Touch Smart Lock you don’t have to bring a key anymore, as it comes with code access as standard. You simply open the door by entering your personal code.

* Please note, this is only possible if you have a special cylinder – most cylinders can no longer be used with a key on the outside if there is a key inserted on the inside.

Battery life of a smart lock

The batteries of the Nuki 3.0 smart lock last up to 6 months. Nuki offers a Power Pack option with the 30.0 Pro, with which the batteries of the lock last up to 12 months. Because the LOQED Touch Smart Lock has a larger battery capacity, the batteries last 9 to 12 months. For € 49,- a Power Kit can be ordered from LOQED including 8 rechargeable batteries and charger that allows you to recharge the battaries rather than replace them.

If the batteries in the lock are running low, you will receive a timely notification to replace them with both Nuki and LOQED. In case you’ve ignored these messages for too long, LOQED includes an emergency power option. By holding a 9-volt battery against the outside of the lock, you can jump start the lock and open it with your phone or access code. Nuki has no means of opening the lock in this situation, so you better keep carrying that key with you.

Safety

The LOQED Touch Smart Lock is fully SKG three-star certified, which is accepted by all Dutch home insurance companies. The Nuki 3.0 Smart Lock has been certified “safe” by the German AV test institute that performs software tests.

Construction and design

With its aluminum look of the knob and white plastic housing, the Nuki Smart Lock looks neat. The 3.0 Pro can also be ordered with a black housing. The lock does protrude quite a bit, partly because it is placed on top of the fittings. Be aware of this if the door can hit a wall when opening, as the lock will be easily damaged and fall off the door. The LOQED Touch Smart Lock is mounted tightly on the door and looks robust and solid with its full metal housing. Also, the internal mechanism of the LOQED Touch Smart Lock is made entirely of metal, unlike the Nuki 3.0 smart lock that uses plastic gears.

Price difference LOQED Touch Smart Lock and a Nuki 3.0

The LOQED Touch Smart Lock is available for €349,-. This includes bridge, code access and cylinder. A charger and rechargeable battery kit is available for €49,-.

The Nuki 3.0 smart lock can be purchased for €149,- and the Nuki Bridge costs €99,- or €259,- if you purchase them together. The keypad for code access is another €79,-. If you do not have a hotel cylinder or SKG three-star cylinder, the cost of a cylinder will come on top of this.
